Born Canalside Knottingley. After death of his Mother Elizabeth, he and the other children were looked after by their Grandmother Elizabeth Beckett.
He was employed by John Harkers Ltd., an an engineer and then later became a Captain. When the business expanded he moved with it to Gloucester, where he married Ellen WATKINS IN 1933. They lived at 13, Trevor Rd, Hucclecote until 1965. At that time they had formed F. Beckett and Sons Ltd., Agricultural Lime Merchants. Starting off with one lorry, hauling lime to farms, and also spreading it. To be nearer the quarry, he purchased a house " High Walls " Burford Rd, Brize Norton.
The lime dust was being hauled from a quarry on the Burford Rd, Brize Norton, Oxfordshire. Then owned by the Pulmer Lime Co- leased from Hunstmans Quarries. The family eventually purchased the lease, and later still purchased outright the quarry in 1975. By then they were producing not only lime but a reconstituted stone called " Bekstone". Which was supplied to many large housing developments.
He retired in 1970, and following the death of his wife, moved to 6 Wychwood Close Carterton.
He died in Jan 1991. | Fred BECKETT

Dear Debbie
In reply to your enquiry regarding the two families I can give you information on what I consider to be the families. Firstly I have to say you need to consider all corruptions in spelling of the names, and I think you will find Howram recd as Ouram, Owram or Oweram, and Trueman may be Trewman.
Let me start with the Howram name:
Edward Ouram married Elizabeth Hanson 30 Jun 1777 at St Giles Pontefract and they had children (with baptism dates):
Thomas 4 May 1778; John 28 Nov 1779; Mary 4 May 1783; * Edward 25 May 1788; Sarah 2 Dec 1792; Elizabeth 26 Jul 1795; Eleanor 18 Feb 1798; Eleanor 9 Feb 1801; Joseph 11 June 1803 (shown as Howram).
Edward the father was buried 22 Apr 1827 aged 72 and Elizabeth 5 Feb 1843 aged 85, both at St Botolphs Knottingley (no memorial stone).
From IGI there was an Edward Ouram son of Jno bap 25 Jul 1756 at Wragby, so he is a possibility. There was an Elizabeth Hanson bap 28 Aug 1757 at Ferry Fryston and another 2 Apr 1758 at Pontefract, so both are possibilities.
* Edward Howram married Mary Tasker 3 Feb 1812 at St Giles Pontefract and they had children (with baptism dates):
Thomas 24 Jan 1813; John 7 Jan 1815; **Rebecca 31 Jan 1817; George 20 Jun 1819; Edward 5 Jun 1822; Elizabeth 18 Sep 1825; William 16 Mar 1828; Mary Ann 31 Jul 1831.
Edward the father was buried 6 Jun 1839 aged 52 at St Botolphs (there was an inquest) and Mary buried 30 Jan 1867? at Knottingley cemeter
**Francis Trueman aged 20 (son of Robert) married Rebecca Howram aged 21 (dau of Edward) 6 Aug 1837 at St Giles Pontefract - children with baptisms:
Harriet 3 Dec 1837; Mary 6 Sep 1839; Robert Edward 10 Sep 1841; George 11 Jun 1844; Sarah 28 Mar 1847; *** Emma 18 Oct 1848; Charles 30 Mar 1851; Hannah 6 Feb 1856; Francis 4 Aug 1858.
Francis George Trueman the father was buried 24 Apr 1888 aged 70 and Rebecca buried 31 Oct 1889 aged 72 both at Knottingley cemetery.
*** Emma Trueman - As you know Emma had an illegitimate son Henry born 5 Apr 1868 and baptised 12 Apr 1868, then after she married William Wright (17 Oct 1870 per your info) he became Henry Trueman Wright, and you have the story from there!
As you know Francis Trueman was Francis George Trueman, son of Robert and Sarah (Pratt) baptised 23 Mar 1818, and you know his siblings (although I have no record of Joseph). Robert Trueman was buried 10 Apr 1828 aged 50 and Sarah buried 8 A849 aged 76, both at St Botolphs.
There is a Robert TREWMAN baptised 24 May 1779 son of William, and a William TRUEMAN married Elizabeth Latham 7 Aug 1770 at Birkin, so they are wirth looking into.
Looking at the Tasker name: George Tasker (bap 11 May 1766 son of Robert) married 22 Jun 1789 at St Giles Ann Rothery ( bap 6 Jan 1768 dau of John). George was a Bricklayer/Mason and was buried 2 Jul 1819 aged 54 and Ann buried 30 Oct 18ged 56, both at St Botolphs.
children were: Mary 28 Feb 1792; Rebecca 26 Jun 1796; Robert 29 Jul 1798; John 13 May 1801; Ann 12 Aug 1802; Elizabeth 27 Jul 1806.
I didn't look into the extended families, but I know from memory there are some memorial stones in cemetery bearing Howram name, and they were mariners who moved to Grimsby where the family suffered a few loss of life at sea. I hope I have n you something to study, but if you have any questions or queries then don't hesitate to ask.
Kindest regards and best wishes Ron Gosney
George Howram, the son of John and Mary Howram who was lost off the sloop 'Laurel' off Killingholme during a heavy gale on the 28th October 1880, aged 21 years.
Ned Howram who was drowned at Grimsby on the 27th July 1870, aged 9 years.
John Howram son of John and Mary Howram was drowned off the sloop 'Jane' on the16th November 1885, aged 17 years.

Charles Lewis - Watkins.
Nick name Bustler.
Reputed Father of Sir Arthur Lewis- Watkins, who is connected to Coal Mines at Bargoed.
First wife reputed to be Margaret ( Mother of Arthur). NO EVIDENCE FOUND FOR THIS .
Charles is supposed to have attended The Crypt School, Gloucester.
According to family ( Dot Sansum) . When he was short of money, he would visit Frethern Court, and always came back with plenty of sovereigns. He also maintained that he had been a fool in his life, and his family should have been very well off.
When he married Harriet, people could not believe he had done so. She being far beneath his station in life. At the time of marriage to Harriet, he lived at Guinea St, Clapham, Gloucester, as did Harriet. To convince people they had married, by all accounts he pinned the marriage certificate to the Church door. The marriage certificate states he was a Bachelor at time of marriage, and his Father John Watkins occupation was a Stay Maker. ( Maker of corsets)
Date for his birth is approx.
Also according to Dot, they met at The Dog Inn at Over. Which is where Harriet worked.
Also the Lewis - Watkins have a family Crypt at St Mary's, Monmouth. Here Charles sister is buried.
It is reputed that Charles was previously married to Margaret and they had two sons, one of which was ( Sir) Arthur Lewis - Watkins. Charles maintained to his family that he had been " a fool" and that they should have been riding round in their own carriages etc. According to Dot there is some sort of family connection to the coal mines at Bargoed.
All abit of a mystery really.
Josie Williams - a descendant of Charles told me the following.
Josie's Father and my mother Ellen Watkins were cousins. From the L-Watkins side.
She told me Charles L Watkins had a sister called Elizabeth, who died age 12 at Gloucester. She is buried in Monmouth - St Mary's in a vault.
Charles went to school at St Mary's de Crypt. Gloucester.

Harriet was born in Newnham. The story goes that she met her future husband at The Dog Inn Over, where she worked. Also that she was far below him in the social standing. ( Quite why, Charles Father was a Staymaker
Harriet according to Dorothy Sansum ( her grandaughter) was a stunning looking woman in her youth.
Harriet ran a sweet shop from her home in Clapham.
